Pin on top, run as many windows as you need
The Pin keeps an Archiver window above all other apps so a long compression or extraction stays visible while you work. Need more than one job at once? Open up to 10 Archiver windows simultaneously — each with its own files, format, password, and progress — so packing one folder while extracting another is a normal Tuesday.
Three formats, each with a clear job
The Archiver supports three archive formats. One is universally compatible, one is dramatically stronger when encrypted, and one is the time-tested standard for streaming and backups.
Convenient, universally compatible
Classic ZIP encryption (ZipCrypto) is decades old and known to be weak. Modern ZIP also supports AES-128 / AES-256, which is much stronger — but only when the app opening it understands AES mode.
Good for everyday sharing. Not ideal for anything truly sensitive.
Built for sensitive files
Uses AES-256 — the same encryption standard trusted by banks, militaries, and governments worldwide. 7-Zip also encrypts the file names, so prying eyes can't even see what's inside the archive.
Use for confidential documents, IDs, contracts, medical records, or source code.
The Unix-world standard
TAR bundles files and folders into a single stream while preserving permissions and structure exactly. It's the go-to format on macOS, Linux, and BSD for backups, deployments, and developer handoffs.
No built-in compression or encryption — pair with separate tooling if you need either.
Rule of thumb: for anything confidential or sensitive, use 7-Zip with AES-256.
